Jesuit High School receives $1.1 million
contribution from Equity/ECS Foundation

Tampa, Fla. – February 11, 2021 – Steve Wathen, the CEO of Equity/ECS, recently earmarked proceeds from a corporate real estate transaction to Jesuit High School, a sum totaling about $1.1 million.

“Jesuit’s commitment to its students every year is truly remarkable,” Wathen said. “We are happy to support their efforts and play a small role in helping to advance the school’s mission. Our company is heavily invested in the Tampa Bay market. We like to engage in the communities we serve in meaningful ways whenever we can.”

The commitment Wathen is referring to is the tremendous assistance Jesuit annually provides to students with financial need. This school year, 40% of the student body is receiving a record amount of financial aid – more than $2.9 million.

Jesuit has long been dedicated to ensuring all qualified young men who wish to attend have the opportunity to enroll regardless of any financial hardship. The effects of COVID-19 have added financial strain to both Jesuit and its students and families. With a tuition of $17,350 and a record enrollment of more than 830, Jesuit had already received a record number of financial aid requests for this school year prior to the COVID-19 shutdown.

In March, the school approved a record financial aid budget of $2.3 million. However, after the shutdown, additional requests for some $700,000 in aid soon followed. Granting the additional requests was made possible by Jesuit’s many generous benefactors, such as Wathen.

“Jesuit’s longstanding commitment to provide the necessary financial assistance for our current students remains at the core of our mission,” said Nick Suszynski, Jesuit’s Director of Development. “To meet this need each year is a true community effort. We rely on, and are extremely grateful for, the generosity of others, like the Equity/ECS Foundation, who fully support our efforts and essentially partner with us in investing in the lives of our students.”

Equity/ECS is a national, full-service commercial real estate firm founded by Wathen in Columbus, Ohio in 1987. The company expanded to the Tampa Bay are more than 15 years ago, and has a significant presence in the region.

Jesuit High School of Tampa is a private, all-male, Catholic high school rooted in the Jesuit tradition of education. Jesuit has been educating young men in the Tampa Bay area since 1899.
