JESUIT Soccer

2018-19 REGION CHAMPIONS  -  33 DISTRICT TITLES IN 35 YEARS

Jesuit soccer has a storied history, capturing six State titles - the most of any Jesuit sports program - since its founding in the 1970s. The Tigers were a force by the '80s, winning State titles in 1987, '95, '97, '98, '99, and '01. The final five championships came under head coach Bob Bauman, and the 2001 team also was honored as National Champions. Eric Sims '95, who starred on the '95 champs, enters his 6th season as head coach in 2018-19. Last season, 2018-19, Jesuit had a spectacular year, going 22-3, outscoring opponents 104-10, and winning the Region Championship. The Tigers were ranked in the Top 10 nationally much of the season, captured the District title for the 33rd time in the past 35 seasons, and reached the State Semifinal before succumbing on the road at defending State Champion Plantation American Heritage on penalty kicks. Jesuit's top returnees in 2019-20 include two Allstate All-Americans, F Zachary Board '20 and F Lucas Gobea '20, and D Robin Tionko. In July in Orlando, Gobea played in the nationally televised Allstate All-American game featuring the nation's top players in the Class of 2020.

Coach Bob Bauman

Longtime Jesuit soccer coach Bob Bauman had one of the great coaching tenures in Florida prep sports history. Bauman led the Tigers to five of the school’s six state titles in soccer – 1995, ’97, ’98, ’99 and ’01 – and the national title in 2001. Jesuit also was state runner-up under Bauman in 1988, ’96 and ’00. He received numerous local, state and national coaching honors, including the National High School Athletic Coaches Association’s National Coach of the Year Award in 2006. In 26 seasons Bauman led Jesuit to 24 District titles, 15 State Tournament (final four) berths and a record of 571-124-69. An attorney with the Morris Law Firm of Tampa, Bauman resigned in 2013 to pursue a judicial position for Hillsborough Circuit Court, Group 34, to which Judge Bauman was elected in Nov. 2014. “Bob was a wonderful mentor to hundreds of Jesuit students," Jesuit athletic director Terry Rupp '84 said.
