The Jesuit Speech and Debate team had a very successful showing at the FGCCFL tournament at Sarasota Riverview High School on Saturday (Oct. 18), winning seven trophies and reaching several milestones.
Three Jesuit competitors earned second-place trophies: Dean Lontoc ’15 for Extemporaneous Speaking, and the team of Jackson Moffett ’16 and Gantt Meredith ’16 in Policy Debate.
Three more claimed third-place trophies: Alex Fiore ’16 in Student Congress, and the Policy Debate tandem of Cullen Finley ’17 and Lincoln Nichter ’17.
In addition, Moffett reached the prestigious 500-point plateau, which is the level of “Special Distinction,” while Fiore earned a Gavel award.
Achieving the level of National Speech and Debate full membership Saturday were Ryan Sullivan ’15, Hector Rizo ’17, and Roberto Roches ’17.
The next event for Speech and Debate is the Blue Key Tournament Oct. 31 - Nov. 2 in Gainesville, a major national event featuring the best competitors from across the country.
