Cross Country

Jesuit cross country has been among the top programs in the state for decades, capturing four State Championships – 1998, 2000, 2004, and 2005 (only soccer  and baseball with seven apiece have more State crowns among Jesuit athletic programs) – and a bevy of District and Region titles. During the fall 2023 season, the Tigers once again claimed the District title (making them 2-for-2 at District under head coach Mike Phillips) while also winning the Babe Zaharias Meet and the 3D Distance Classic. At District, Cesar Calero ’27 led the way, finishing 3rd individually in 16:23 as five Tigers placed in the Top 16: Lucas Rupp ’26 (7th, 16:57), Brody Thurston ’25 (13th, 17:14), Max Purvis ’26 (15th, 17:25), and Daniel Dewey ’25 (16th, 17:25). After a 6th place result at the Region led by Calero, Thurston, and Diego Alvarado-Borjas ’26, the Tigers then closed the year with a strong 7th place finish (moving up one spot from 2023) at the 3A State Meet paced by Calero (16:31), Rupp (16:45), and Johnny LeBron ’24 (17:12). Phillips enters his third season in the fall of 2024, and the top returnees include Calero, Rupp, Thurston, Purvis, Dewey, and Alvarado-Borjas.
