Jesuit wrestling captured the Class 2A State Championship on Saturday (March 2) in Kissimmee, the Tigers' 3rd State crown since 2020!

Led by head coach Sal Basile, Jesuit was spectacular over the 3-day tournament at Silver Spurs Arena, outscoring runner-up Lake Gibson 201 to 146.5.

Three Tigers won individual State titles: Malachi Ortiz '25 (113 pounds), Draven McCall '25 (150), and Brandon Cody '24 (165)! For McCall, it was his second State crown after winning last year at 138.

Roman Lermer '24 (120) and K.J. Vazquez '27 (157) were State runners-up. Xavier Albo '25 (132), Jayden Bowles '25 (138), and Mason Basile '27 (144) placed 3rd. Reid Yakes '27 (126) was 4th, and Chancellor Haber '24 (175) was 7th, giving the Jesuit a historic 10 wrestlers on the podium!

The Tigers set a new school record at every stage of the playoffs, advancing all 14 wrestlers from District to Region, 12 from Region to State, and then placing 10 on the State podium.

Lermer, who will wrestle collegiately for the U.S. Air Force Academy, completes a historic career as a two-time State Champion and two-time State runner-up.

Jesuit earned the State Duals championship in 2020, and the Tigers won the traditional Individual bracket State Tournament (IBT) in 2022 and again this weekend. During the past six years, Jesuit wrestling has captured a whopping 20 individual State titles.
