Winter Signing Ceremony

Winter Signing Ceremony

Four Jesuit High School seniors signed National Letters of Intent to play collegiate athletics at the school of their choice on Wednesday morning (February 3) in the Tiger Palace.

Family, friends, and coaches attended the special event. Jesuit president Fr. Richard C. Hermes, S.J. and athletic director Terry Rupp '84 first addressed the signees, encouraging them to take what they've learned at Jesuit with them to college, and to continue to strive for excellence in their lives as 'Men for Others.' The four seniors who signed Wednesday were:

·        Nick Shaffer – swimming - Florida Atlantic

·        Bradke Lohry – baseball – Wabash Valley

·        Nick Parisi – golf – Elmhurst University

·        Ryan Weir – basketball – Aquinas College

Shaffer, who helped Jesuit swimming earn three State titles in his four years signed with Florida Atlantic. Under the tutelage of his lifelong coach and father, Bill Shaffer, he finished his high school career as one of the most decorated swimmers in Jesuit history. Shaffer totaled four individual/relay State gold medals in addition to his three team golds. At the most recent 2020 State Championship, he collected three golds (two relays, 200 IM), tied with his older brother, Tommy Shaffer ’16, for the most in a single State Meet in school history. He won 19 State medals in all during his time at Jesuit.

Lohry will play baseball at Wabash Valley College in Illinois, the No. 1 ranked junior college baseball program in the nation. Lohry was the starting shortstop for Jesuit’s 2019 State Championship team, and he was the second baseman last season when Jesuit was undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the nation before the season was cut short due to COVID-19.

Parisi signed on to play golf at Elmhurst, near Chicago. As a senior this fall, he helped lead the Tigers to their 15th straight District Championship in addition to capturing the Region title.

Weir, a 3-year starter who recently became the 16th Tiger basketball player to eclipse the 1,000 points milestone, will play for Aquinas in Grand Rapids, Mich. Weir led Jesuit in scoring as junior (13.5 ppg), guiding the Tigers to their ninth straight District title. This year he is averaging 18 ppg while leading Jesuit to its seventh straight 20-win season.

This was the third of four athletic signing ceremonies at Jesuit this school year. Each ceremony takes place on the first day of the four college signing periods. Every year, between 15 and 30 Jesuit student-athletes sign to participate in college athletics.
