The Jesuit Speech and Debate Team continued its success at the Florida Forensics League State Qualifying meet last Saturday (Jan. 31) at Wharton High School.

Eight Tigers participated with fantastic results - seven qualified and one was chosen an alternate for the FFL State Championship on Feb. 27-28 in Orlando.

The team of Michael Lee ’16 and Roberto Roches ’17 finished first in Policy Debate, as Jesuit swept the top three spots. Finishing in a second-place tie were the teams of Gantt Meredith ’16 and Jackson Moffett ’16, and the team of Lincoln Nichter ’17 and Cullen Finley ’17.

Dean Lontoc ’15 qualified in International Extemp, for his presentation on topics such as, “Is the German economy strong enough to continue financing the European economic recovery efforts?” Alex Fiore ’16 was chosen the first alternate.

This was the second event Jesuit participated in this spring with several more to come, including a big national qualifying tournament this weekend (Feb. 7) in North Port, the state championship event Feb. 27-28 in Orlando, and a Catholic national qualifier March 20-21 at Wharton.
