The Jesuit High School wrestling team traveled to Conestoga Valley High in Pennsylvania during the Christmas break, and when the Tigers came home – in minivans, after their flight was delayed, delayed, delayed, and cancelled – they brought with them the 1st-place trophy, defeating 30 other schools to win the Turner Holiday Classic!

It marked the 3rd tournament title already this season for the Tigers, the reigning State Duals champions, following two others in early December. Jesuit defeated 21 schools at the Ryan Blackwell Invitational in Gulf Breeze High, and 24 schools at the Ben Richards Memorial at Leto High, as well as a making a strong showing at the Knockout Christmas Classic in Kissimmee.

In Pennsylvania, leading the way individually were champion Reid Yakes '27 and 10 others who earned spots on the podium: K.J. Vazquez '27 (2nd), Caden Krsul '28 (3rd), Robert Frijouf '29 (3rd), Macho Mendez '27 (3rd), Mason Basile '27 (3rd), Zach Leto '28 (5th), Brock Glover '27 (5th), Robert Bossowski '26 (7th), Ethan Smith '27 (7th), and Cooper Garcia '27 (7th).

At the Blackwell Invitational, Frijouf, Leto, Yakes, Vazquez, and Marco DeMayo '29 all won their weight class, and at the Richards Memorial, Frijouf, Leto, Yakes, Krsul, Vazquez, and Cooper Garcia '27 were victorious.

The Tigers were back in action this week when they hosted the District Duals on Wednesday (Jan. 7), defeating Tampa Bay Tech (semifinal) and Cypress Creek (final) to capture the title while dropping just one match. Following a weekend tournament in Jensen Beach on Jan. 9-10, the Tigers return to the Tiger Palace to host the Region Duals on Jan. 15 at 6:00pm.

Jesuit's other winter sports teams also have performed well during the first half of their seasons. Basketball, which is gunning for its 12th consecutive 20-win season, entered the new year with a 14-2 record after going 2-1 and placing 5th in the Cookie Garcia Jesuit Invitational with a victory over New Orleans Jesuit. Soccer, which is looking to make its 3rd straight appearance in the State Championship game, finished as runner-up in the Champions League and is 8-2-1 entering 2026. The Tigers are ranked No. 4 among all schools in Florida by MaxPreps.com and are seeking their 8th straight Region title.
