Balanced attack leads Jesuit basketball to 65-48 win in televised clash

Round 1 of the annual 2-round basketball battle between Jesuit and Tampa Catholic was convincingly claimed by the Tigers on Friday night (Jan. 9) at the Tiger Palace, 65-48.

Spurred by raucous support from the Blue Tide student cheering section in front of the Bright House Sports Network cameras, Jesuit (13-5) dashed to a 37-18 lead at halftime. The Tigers stretched the margin to the mid-20s early in the 3rd quarter, and TC (12-6) never got closer than 14 the rest of the way.

Four Tigers scored in double figures: Christian Whidden ’15 led with 16 points, followed by Stevie Darst ’17 (15), Chad Holtz ’15 (13), and Lee Green ’16  (10), while point guard D.J. Snyder '16 handled the Crusaders’ pressure and played menacing defense.

Jesuit’s final regular season game is at TC on Jan. 30. The Tigers have defeated the Crusaders seven straight times.
