Four huge scoring plays of more than 50 yards and a dominating 2nd half defensive performance propelled Jesuit football to its biggest win of the season Friday (Sept. 16) at Corral Memorial Stadium, 44-23 over Jefferson.
Tied at 23 at the half, Malik Davis ’17 (20 carries, 159 yards, surpassing 5,000 rushing yards for his career) scored three second-half TDs while the defense was making numerous sacks (including two by Anthony Nelson '18), notching 4th quarter interceptions (by Dalton Garrett ’17 and Travell Harris ’17), and pitching a 2nd-half shutout.
Harris and quarterback Danny Boon '17 (4-of-12 for 137 yards, 4 carries for 60 yards) were the stars of the 1st half. They connected on a 53-yard bomb to get Jesuit within 8-6 in the 1st quarter, and then Boon hit Larry Hodges ’18 down the middle for a 55-yard TD strike. Harris capped off the big-play 1st half with a 75-yard kickoff return TD.
Jesuit, ranked No. 2 in Class 5A, improved to 3-0 and got a leg up in the District against a Jefferson team expected to be its top District competition.
Next Friday (Sept. 23) the Tigers travel to Pasco High.
