The Streak: 22 Years

The Streak: 22 Years

The Streak lives on, emphatically.

Jesuit football, buoyed by a phenomenal Blue Tide student section, defeated rival Tampa Catholic 42-0 on Friday (Nov. 5) at Corral Memorial Stadium, the Tigers’ incredible 22nd straight win over TC. Or as the Blue Tide t-shirts declared, XXII.

It was a total team effort, with Joquez Smith '23 and Junior Vandeross '22 each scoring a pair of offensive TDs, Troy Bowles '23 scoring on special teams (blocked punt, scoop and score), and Caleb Williams ’22 scoring on defense (interception return). It is the largest shutout victory margin in series history, covering 55 games (Jesuit leads the series 44-11).

The defense was the shining star, however. Led by relentless LB Wayne Quin '22 as well as DE Peter Pesansky '24, NT Omarion Clark '22, LB A.J. Cottrill '22, S Wade Woodaz '22, and CB Andre Gilbert '23, plus Bowles and Williams and many others, the defense dominated from start to finish. The Tigers allowed just 53 yards and a couple of first downs en route to their 5th shutout of the season while completing their second straight undefeated regular season (10-0). The Tigers are ranked No. 12 nationally by MaxPreps and USA Today.

Friday (Nov. 12), Jesuit opens the Class 6A playoffs at home in a Region Quarterfinal vs. Boca Ciega. Inside the stadium on Friday night will be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Road Show – Friday Night Football Campus Tour. It will include a Bucs RV equipped with two big screens to play Madden NFL 22, a 20-foot inflatable QB Challenge game, and a 15-foot inflatable Super Bowl Trophy.
