The Streak

The Streak marches on.
The Jesuit High School football team's annual season finale vs. TC has ended the same way for each of the past 18 years - in triumph for the Tigers.
This year, on Friday night (Nov. 3) at Corral Memorial Stadium, the score was 35-7. The Tigers busted open a 7-7 game at halftime with four offensive touchdowns, while the defense, led by Anthony Nelson '18 and Dane Belton '19 (two interceptions), was smothering the TC offense again and again.
Braden Gilby '18 blocked a punt and ran it in for a TD for Jesuit's lone score of the first half. Then the offense, behind a powerful offensive line led by Anthony Seguiti '18 and Bradley Haines '18, erupted with big plays after intermission.
Ricky Parks '21 (who is pictured in the homepage image) gave Jesuit the lead for good with a 43-yard TD run early in the 3rd quarter. Jonathan Odom '20 caught two TD passes, one from Enzo Tedesco '21 and one from Larry Hodges '19, leaping high to snare the pass from Tedesco to score from 27 yards out.
Hodges then closed the scoring midway through the 4th quarter with an 8-yard run, one play after Matthew Pittman '19 had rumbled 40 yards to inside the TC 10 yard line.
TC entered Friday's game having won six straight games, outscoring its opponents 268-23 in that span. Since 1990, Jesuit is 26-2 vs. the Crusaders. Head coach Matt Thompson improved to 5-0 vs. TC.
On Sunday (Nov. 5), Jesuit learned that it had qualified for the Class 5A State playoffs and earned a rematch with Jefferson. The Tigers dropped a heartbreaking 17-16 overtime game at Jefferson on Monday, Oct. 30, a game that was rescheduled from September due to Hurricane Irma.
District champion Jefferson automatically qualified for the playoffs, while Jesuit (5-4) qualified based on the FHSAA's new points system, developed this year, that favors teams that play more difficult schedules.
The Tigers and Dragons will play in a Region Quarterfinal on Fri. Nov. 10 at 7:30pm at Jefferson.
