The Agliano Press Box

Friday night (August 21), before a packed house at Alumni Field, the Dr. Dennis Agliano ’60 Press Box was officially unveiled.

At halftime of Jesuit’s 37-0 season-opening victory over SFA, as Dr. Agliano and his family were recognized at midfield, the royal blue draping was lowered to reveal the entirety of the beautiful red brick press box.

The state-the-art facility now serves as a central hub for game-day operations and media coverage, elevating the experience for players, coaches, and spectators – and is a major enhancement to the school’s nationally recognized athletic program.

Also new and very well-received: the home-side bleachers were reconstructed in alignment with the press box. The full project was designed by Cooper Johnson Smith Peterson and made possible through a leadership gift from Dr. Agliano, who starred for the Tigers on the gridiron in the late 1950s.

For decades, Dr. Agliano been recognized as one of Tampa’s leading otolaryngologists, and he is a longtime steadfast supporter of Jesuit, with lifetime giving exceeding $1 million.

“Dr. Agliano has been an extraordinary leader in support of the mission of Jesuit High School,” said school president Fr. Vincent Giacabazi, S.J. “His ongoing generosity impacts the lives of Jesuit’s students, demonstrates confidence in our work, and strengthens our ability to form future generations of young men in Tampa in the nearly 500-year tradition of Jesuit education.”

The classic red-brick style complements nearby campus landmarks such as the Bell Tower. The back side of the press box rises above the left field fence of the Hyer Family Park baseball facility, creating a striking visual connection between the athletic venues, and it will support all of the athletic programs that use Alumni Field, including football, soccer, lacrosse, and track & field.

The new home bleachers and press box are the latest in a series of recent athletics upgrades at Jesuit. Last football season, Jesuit unveiled the amazing Chatterton ’05 Family Scoreboard and new RootZone 3D3 Astroturf. These projects and others have elevated the school’s championship athletic program: Jesuit annually ranks No. 1 among all Tampa Bay-area boys athletic programs in the state’s all-sports rankings, and the Tigers have held the No. 1 statewide all-sports ranking in their classification for seven consecutive years.
