Jesuit High School swimming capped another sensational season with a 3rd-place finish Saturday (Nov. 12) at the Class 2A State Meet, and the Tigers brought home several medals – including gold.

The 200 Freestyle Relay quartet of (L-R on homepage) Sam Sands ’18, Chris Jennings ’18, Stephen Dawes ’17, and Will Sands ’17, captured the State title with a time of 1:26.61.

The victory helped keep the Tigers (220 points) in a tight three-way title chase throughout the night at Sailfish Splash Waterpark in Stuart, along with eventual winner Miami Gulliver Prep (234) and runner-up Panama City Beach Arnold (225).

Jesuit, which finished as State runner-up the past two years under head coach Bill Shaffer, earned bronze medals in the 200 Medley Relay (3rd place – Tyler Carreja ’19, Jennings, Ray Petrus ’17, and Dawes) and the 500 Freestyle (3rd place – Brendan Driscoll ’19).

Also scoring for the Tigers were Sam Sands (4th in the 50 Freestyle, 5th in the 100 Freestyle), Jennings (6th in both the 50 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke), Diego Perez-Aracena ’18 (5th in Diving), and the 400 Freestyle Relay (4th – Dawes, John Jansen ’18, Will Sands, Sam Sands).

The third consecutive Top 3 finish at State capped a season in which the Tigers won the District title for the 20th straight year and the Region title an 8th straight time.
