Spring Signing Day

Spring Signing Day

Ten Jesuit High School athletes spanning six different sports signed with the colleges of their choice Wednesday (April 12) at a festive early morning signing ceremony in Faber Hall at Jesuit, with family, friends, and coaches in attendance.

The 10 Jesuit seniors signed Letters of Intent in baseball, basketball, football, golf, lacrosse, and soccer:

  • Will Anderson – basketball – Transylvania University
  • Camden Bauman – football – U.S. Military Academy - West Point
  • Danny Boon – football – Southeastern University
  • Tim Gyenis – soccer – Wright State University
  • Ian Knott – lacrosse – Rosemont College
  • Drew Martin – baseball – Eckerd College
  • Nick Mastro – lacrosse – Marymount University
  • Benny Ortiz – soccer – Florida College
  • Lucas Uzdavinis – basketball – Ave Maria University
  • Matt Zloto – golf – Spring Hill College

Jesuit president Fr. Richard C. Hermes, S.J., and athletic director Terry Rupp ’84 offered their congratulations, encouraging the signees to continue striving and to be leaders among their peers at their respective colleges and universities.

The 10 student-athletes accumulated many great achievements in helping their respective Jesuit teams win numerous District and Region titles. Bauman and Boon, the starting quarterback, helped lead Jesuit football to back-to-back unbeaten regular seasons the past two years and State semifinal appearances. Bauman also continues Jesuit's storied tradition of graduates attending military academies. Football teammate Rodney Higdon '17 signed with Air Force in February, and Tommy Shaffer '16 (Army, swimming), and Zack Quilty '16 (Navy, football) were among last year's Jesuit signees.

Gyenis and Ortiz helped Jesuit soccer to a State Semifinal appearance their junior season and the District title every year at Jesuit. Knott and Mastro (whose cousin, Stephano Mastro '15, plays lacrosse at Mount St. Mary's) helped Jesuit lacrosse to a District title in 2016 and a 14-3 record and Top 15 ranking in Florida this season. Martin has helped Jesuit baseball win a District title every season, as well as the Saladino Tournament title and a national ranking by Baseball America this spring. Anderson and Uzdavinis also won District titles every season with Jesuit basketball, and they helped the Tigers advance to the State Tournament in 2016.

Zloto helped Jesuit golf win its 11th consecutive District title this season, placed 4th individually at the Region Meet with a 77, and helped the Tigers to a 4th place result at State, the school's best State finish since 1997.

This was the last of three scheduled college signing ceremonies at Jesuit for the 2016-17 school year. Each year, between 20-30 Jesuit student-athletes sign Letters of Intent to participate in college athletics. The spring signing period lasts several weeks, and more Jesuit student-athletes could sign during that time.
