Spring Signing Ceremony

Spring Signing Ceremony

Five Jesuit High School student-athletes signed with the colleges of their choice Wednesday (April 11) at a festive early morning signing ceremony in the President's Board Room, attended by family, friends, and coaches.

Jesuit school president Fr. Richard C. Hermes, S.J., and athletic director Terry Rupp '84 addressed the signees, encouraging them to use what they have learned at Jesuit as they continue to strive for excellence in college.

The Jesuit athletes who signed Letters of Intent on Wednesday morning are:

  • Eli Davenport, wrestling, John Carroll University
  • Ethan Dieck, football, Pomona College
  • Jimmy Emslie, tennis, Mercer University
  • Vinny LoSauro, football, Ohio Wesleyan
  • Anthony Seguiti, football, Hobart College

Davenport, who competed at 195 pounds, was one of Jesuit's top wrestlers the past two seasons. He advanced to State as a junior, and this season and he helped the Tigers capture numerous tournament titles, including the District Duals and District Tournament (for the 10th time in 12 years), while claiming the individual District title again this year at 195.

Dieck (fullback), LoSauro (running back), and Seguiti (offensive line) all played key roles for Jesuit football the past several seasons. The Tigers have won District titles four of the past five years, compiled a 31-7 mark the past three seasons with two Region titles, and continued the winning streak vs. rival Tampa Catholic, now at 18 seasons.

Emslie has been a standout on the tennis court since his freshman year, playing mostly No. 1 singles and doubles while helping the Tigers maintain their dominance. Jesuit has won the District 22 of the past 23 years. The past two years, Emslie has been the individual District champion at both No. 1 singles and doubles.

The five signees represent schools from across the nation. Pomona College (Dieck), one of the nation's most highly selective colleges, is in Claremont, California; Hobart (Seguiti) is in upstate New York in the Finger Lakes region; John Carroll (Davenport) is a Jesuit university just outside of Cleveland, while Ohio Wesleyan (LoSauro) is near Columbus; and Mercer (Emslie) is the oldest private university in Georgia, established in Macon in 1833.

This was the third of three college signing ceremonies scheduled at Jesuit for the 2017-18 school year. This spring signing period began Wednesday and lasts several weeks, so more student-athletes could sign in the coming days. Each year, about 20-30 Jesuit student-athletes sign Letters of Intent to participate in college athletics.
