Cullen Finley '17 and Jackson Moffett '16 qualify for national and international debates

The Jesuit Speech and Debate Team closed the 2014-15 regular season in style on March 23-24 at the National Catholic Forensic League’s Grand Finals at Wharton High, as six team members advanced to the Catholic National Tournament.

The Policy Debate teams of Jackson Moffett ’16  and Gantt Meredith ’16, Roberto Roches ’17 and Michael Lee ’16, and Cullen Finley ’17 and Lincoln Nichter ’17 continued their season-long dominance. All three teams will represent Jesuit at Catholic Nationals, which will take place in Fort Lauderdale over Memorial Day weekend.

Two more Tigers just missed qualifying and are alternates for Catholic Nationals: Paul Consalvo ’16 earned 1st alternate in Dramatic Performance, and Alex Fiore ’16 earned 2nd alternate in Student Congress.

In addition, Moffett and Finley were selected by vote of the 32 schools in the Florida Sunshine District for the All-District World Debate Team. Moffett and Finley will be joined by three debaters from Pineview School near Sarasota to represent the Florida Sunshine District in an international competition this summer in Dallas, Texas.

At the World Debate event, Moffett and Finley will compete against teams from around the United States and 30 countries, including China, Japan, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
