Soccer Titles

The Jesuit High School soccer team checked off another milestone in its sensational 2017-18 season on Friday night (Feb. 2), defeating Jefferson 4-0 for the District title.

The Tigers scored two early goals, by Andres Cartaya ’18 and Connor Stuart ’19, to quickly nullify the Dragons’ home field advantage. Second-half goals by Quintin Hoggard ’18 and Noah Kurtz ’18 provided insurance and established the final margin, while goalkeeper Thomas Knipe ’19 tallied Jesuit’s 18th shutout of the season.

The Tigers, who won the prestigious Tampa Bay Invitational earlier this season, who have won 25 of 26 matches, and who cracked the top 10 in the MaxPreps national rankings (currently No. 8), now have added District Champions to their mantle. It marks the 32nd time in the past 34 seasons Jesuit soccer has won the District, and the Tigers are 5-for-5 under head coach Eric Sims ’95.

The next challenge is the Region, which begins Wednesday night at Jesuit with a Region Quarterfinal match against Seminole Osceola (10-5-1). If the Tigers advance to the Region Semifinal, it will be played Saturday at Jesuit at 7:00pm, vs. either Boca Ciega or Jefferson.
