Soccer: Region Title!

Soccer: Region Title!

What a night at Alumni Field as Jesuit soccer turned in a spectacular performance Tuesday (Feb. 17) to defeat Cape Coral Mariner 5-0 and win the Region title!

The emphatic triumph also set a record for the historic Tiger soccer program. It marked the 8th straight Region title, which surpasses the "Golden Era" run of 7 straight Region titles between 1995 - 2001. In that span the Tigers also claimed 5 of their 7 State titles..

Head coach Eric Sims '95 played for those 1995 State Champions and now has coached Jesuit to 13 consecutive Region Final appearances in his 13 seasons, and the 8 straight Region crowns.

Jesuit (16-2-3), which is seeking the program's 8th State title, will play a Class 5A State Semifinal on Feb. 27 at 7:00om at Spec Martin Stadium in DeLand vs. Pembroke Pines Charter. The Tigers defeated PPC in the State Championship match in 2020, which is Jesuit's last soccer State title.

Tuesday night at Jesuit, the Tigers took command from the outset vs. Mariner (25-3-2). An impenetrable backline of Brock Edelman '26, Thijs Wolfe '27, Lukas Ruiz '26, Jaxon Hannon '26, and Mason Culver '26 protected goalkeeper Hudsyn Pears '26 all night.

Luch DeGenova '26, Charlie Dowman '26, Jonathan Dayani '27, and Hannon controlled the midfield throughout as the Tigers scored two in the first half, by Philip Kane '29 and Edelman, and tacked on three more after intermission by Dowman, Dayani (PK earned by Kenny Kane '27), and Jonaven Broadbent '27. Culver had two assists.

The leading scorers for the Tigers this season have been Dowman (19g, 13a), Dayani (18g, 7a), Kenny Kane (14g, 14a), and Lucas Book '26 (12g, 4a in just 15 games), while Hannon (4g, team-high 20a) has been the top playmaker.
