Senior Day

Senior Day

Jesuit High School's Class of 2020 paraded through campus in their cars Friday (May 1) morning as part of a socially distanced and virtual Senior Day.

The day began with the seniors receiving a special video that featured the announcement of Senior Notables (Spencer Williams '20 was voted "Best All-Around," see all notables listed below), messages to the class from president Fr. Richard C. Hermes, S.J., principal Barry Neuburger, and assistant principal Debbie Pacheco, and was highlighted by the traditional farewell address of student body president A.J. Karabenick '20.

Karabenick took the seniors through their phenomenal four years at Jesuit, from the initial challenges that first year – "Frustrated with myself for not instantly succeeding, a classic freshman move ... " – through all of the events of the first 3/4ths of senior year, including nine National Merit Finalists, Homecoming, and State Championships in soccer and wrestling.

Later that morning, the senior class came to campus for the first time since March 6, which was the last day before Spring Break and the last "normal" school day. Upon return from break, with the coronavirus pandemic causing sweeping restrictions, Jesuit implemented virtual school for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.

So it had been eight weeks since the seniors had been together on campus. Friday, they paraded through the Gonzmart Hall parking lot in their cars, picking up their custom graduation yard signs and then turning up Loyola Lane toward the senior parking lot. There they received a lunch-to-go, and all along the way they received greetings and well wishes from teachers and administrators. The yard signs were lined up 200 in a row, alphabetically from Paul Abraham and Keller Agliano to Clark Wichman and Daniel Youakim.

In the afternoon, the seniors received the traditional Senior Day slideshow filled with images from senior year as well as the freshman-senior side-by-side portraits for all 200 members of the class.

Please view below two videos, the first of the Senior Notables announcements and Karabenick's farewell address (top), and below that is a video from Friday of the seniors coming to campus to pick up their yard signs, which has more than 100 images. Below that is a listing of the Senior Notables.
