For the third straight year, and fourth time in five years, the Jesuit High School bowling team placed first among all bowling teams in the state of Florida in the Academic Team Champion (ATC) standings.

The ATC results from the fall sports season show Jesuit also excelled in swimming (second place in its classification) and football (third), and the Tigers rank No. 1 overall among all Class 5A boys sports programs. Jesuit’s 27 ranking points are three ahead of Gainesville Eastside’s boys teams in the ATC standings.

The ATC figures are compiled annually by the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) and are based on cumulative team GPA. Updated rankings for the 2015-16 school year will be released by the FHSAA after the winter and spring sports seasons.

In addition to its academic prowess, the Jesuit bowling team captured the District title for the third consecutive year and shattered numerous school scoring records. The Varsity team members are: Brendan Sutton ’16, Michael Toth ’16, Kollin Boje ’17, Kevin Dinan ’17, Ethan Sutton ’18, Greg Davis ’19, and Trace Nuss ’19.

“This is an amazingly talented group of young men,’’ head coach Ted Beil said. “They are truly a team of scholars in the Jesuit tradition.”

In addition bowling (3.76 GPA), the swimming (3.59, runner-up in 2A swimming) and football (3.18, third in 5A football) teams fared very well in their respective sports and classifications. Jesuit’s two other fall sports teams placed just outside the Top 10 in their sports/classifications, cross country (3.53), and golf (3.25).

Jesuit teams also did very well in athletic competition this fall, winning four District titles and three Region titles (football, golf, swimming).

In 2013-14, Jesuit ranked No. 1 overall among Class 5A schools in the boys ATC standings. The Tigers ranked second overall in the 5A boys ATC standings last school year.
