Region Dominance
Jesuit soccer is headed back to the State Tournament!
The Tigers scored a decisive 4-1 win over Winter Garden Horizon on Wednesday (Feb. 21) at Corral Memorial Stadium to win the Region title for the 6th straight season.
Jesuit (20-1-4) scored twice in the first 20 minutes, on strikes by Patrick Wiley ’25 and Keegan Clamp ’25, and then put it away after intermission on goals by Kaden Plummer ’24 and Alejandro Vargas ’24.
Key saves by Gavin Garlick ’24 late in the first half helped Jesuit protect its lead, and the backline of Brady Nessler ’24, Michael Jacolow ’24, Charles Dowman ’26, Nick Smith ’25, and Plummer stymied Horizon throughout the match. Aggressive, attacking runs by Dutch Iavarone ’25 and Dante Searls ’24 provided offensive opportunities throughout for the Tigers, and Nico Cubas ’24 and Evan Yockey ’25 helped control the midfield.
The Tigers, who have won 20 games for the 9th time in 10 seasons, will play in a State Semifinal on Tuesday (Feb. 27) at 4:00pm in DeLand, a rematch vs. Naples. Last season in the State Semifinal, Naples defeated Jesuit.
The Tigers are seeking the soccer program’s 8th State title, and its first since 2020.
