Jesuit High School advanced to the second round of the Class 5A playoffs Friday (Nov. 13) with a 31-8 win over Lakewood at Corral Memorial Stadium.

On the Tigers’ second possession, Malik Davis ’17 busted an 87-yard touchdown run to put Jesuit up 10-0, and the Tigers never were threatened the rest of the way.

Quarterback Danny Boon ’17 had a 1-yard scoring run and two touchdown passes. His 40-yard strike to Kendrick Torain ’18 two minutes before halftime staked Jesuit to a 24-0 lead at intermission.

Boon connected with Nick Rausch ’16 from 14 yards out midway through the fourth quarter to make it 31-0, and a late score by Lakewood set the final margin.

The Jesuit defense was dominant again for most of the game, coming up just shy of adding to its total of four shutouts this season. Defensive linemen Anthony Nelson ’18, Nick Leone ’16, Christian Paredes ’16, Thomas Mooney ’16, Mike Swenson ’17, and Cam Petrie ’16 controlled the line of scrimmage throughout, Parker Looney '16 was all over the field, and Braden Gilby '18 and Jason Stokes '16 had interceptions.

Davis, coming off a record-setting 357-yard rushing performance in the 35-20 season finale victory over Tampa Catholic, ran for 167 yards vs. Lakewood.

The undefeated Tigers improved to 11-0, while Lakewood ended its season 6-5.

Jesuit will host Jefferson on Friday (Nov. 20) in a second round playoff game. The Tigers defeated the Dragons 21-14 in the regular season. Jefferson defeated Gibbs 45-44 in its opening round playoff game.
