The Jesuit High School wrestling team defended the home turf on Saturday (Jan. 14).

The Tigers hosted the Jesuit 6-Way Duals in the Tiger Palace and defeated all five opponents en route to the title, toppling Dixie Hollins, Carrollwood Day School, Admiral Farragut, Gaither, and Orlando Bishop Moore.

The win over Bishop Moore capped an exciting day for head coach Sal Basile’s squad, as the Tigers rallied from 23-6 down for a 51-33 win with a slew of pins. Heavyweight Ryan Nelson ’19 got the crowd fired up with a pin (pictured on the homepage), and Jesuit closed it out with consecutive pins by William McGill ’19 (113 pounds), Luke Surak ’18 (120), and Matt Daner ’17 (126). Daner was locked in a tight match when he pulled off a defensive pin to cap the afternoon.

For the day, Angel Dominguez '18, Ethan Basile '20, and Daner were a perfect 5-0, while Miguel Coste '19, Patrick Eberly '18, Eli Davenport '18, McGill, and Surak were 4-1.

The Tigers have three more meets before returning to the Tiger Palace for the District Tournament on Feb. 18.  This weekend (Jan. 20-21) they travel to Punta Gorda Charlotte for the Gene Gorman Showcase Duals, followed by the Live Greco Invitational at Steinbrenner High School on Jan. 28, and the Clay Rotary Classic at Green Cove Springs Clay on Feb. 3-4.
