O'Leary Wins Rowing National Titles

Brian O'Leary '23 will represent the U.S. Youth National Team at the World Rowing Beach Sprint Championships in Portugal this fall.

O’Leary earned the prestigious honor while competing at the U.S. Rowing Beach Sprint Nationals at Lido Key near Sarasota on June 19. He won the junior men's single sculls and then partnered with his Stewards Foundation teammate, Britt Wotovich, to capture the junior mixed double sculls and qualify for the world championships in September in two events.

Each event consisted of a time trial before moving to a bracket-style, head-to-head racing format. In the final of the junior men's single, O'Leary clocked a 3:09.5 for an 18-second victory over his Jesuit classmate and Stewards Foundation teammate Michael Garcia ’22.

In the mixed double sculls final, O’Leary and Wotovich defeated a team from the Greater Miami Rowing Club by nearly five seconds, finishing in 3:17.0.

"I'm really excited for it," O'Leary said. "It's something I've never done. I've never really excelled in any sports like I have in rowing. I've just started, and I've taken off with it. I really love it, and I want to do it for a long time. I'm excited to go to Portugal."
