National AP Scholars

Jesuit High School's Advanced Placement program had another sensational year in 2019-20, as 17 Jesuit students have been recognized with AP's highest honor: National AP Scholar.

The 17 National AP Scholars is just one shy of the highest total in school history (18 in 2018-19) and reflects a continued trend of growth and excellence in Advanced Placement at Jesuit. Last week, the school announced a 78% average AP pass rate on the annual tests taken each May, the seventh consecutive year Jesuit has exceeded a 76% overall pass rate

Simultaneously, Jesuit has been expanding the size of its Advanced Placement program each year. AP course offerings have escalated from 10 in 2011 to 26 this year. The number of AP students has grown from 139 in 2011 to 457 this year, and a school-record 1,112 AP tests were taken by Jesuit students in May. 

"National AP Scholar" is the highest recognition for high school students who take AP Exams. It recognizes those students who have earned a score of 4 or higher on eight or more Advanced Placement Exams, and averaged at least 4 on all of their AP Exams.

Congratulations to Jesuit's National AP Scholars for 2019-20: Logan Agnew '20, Bennett Andersen '20, Christopher Browy '20, Sean Doherty '20, Spencer Farfante ‘20, Brennen Gil '20, Jake Greenwell '20, Gabe Herrera '20, Daniel Jung '21, Anthony Kirchner '20, Parker Maddox '20, Jake Pratt '20, Anson Rowe '20, Mark Rumsey '20, Andy Sebek '20, Collin Talbot '20, and Nick Teller '20.   

Jung is just the third Jesuit student to achieve National AP Scholar status his junior year, joining Andersen and Farfante, who did so in 2019. 

In addition to Jesuit's National AP Scholars, the school also produced the most-ever, or tied for the most, AP Scholars in these categories:

• 64 AP Scholars with Distinction - students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams
• 21 AP Scholars with Honor - students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams
• 85 AP Scholars - students who have received scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams 

Jesuit also issued seven AP Capstone diplomas in 2020, raising the number of Jesuit students who have received the prestigious Capstone diploma to 23 in the past three years.

The Advanced Placement program, created by the College Board, offers college-level curricula and examinations to high school students. The AP curriculum for each of the various subjects is created for the College Board by a panel of experts and college-level educators in that field of study. Jesuit maintains the integrity of its AP program and test results by requiring all enrolled AP students to take the AP exam in that course. (Some schools allow students in AP courses to opt out of the AP test.)
