Jesuit defeats Auburndale 35-28 in the opening round of the playoffs
Quarterback Trent Wessel ’15 accounted for four touchdowns – three rushing, one passing – to lift Jesuit to a 35-28 win Friday over Auburndale in a Class 5A Region Quarterfinal game at Corral Memorial Stadium.
The Tigers next will host Spoto, which defeated Lake Wales 42-6, in the Region Semifinal on Fri. Nov. 21. Jesuit defeated Spoto 32-20 on Oct. 3.
Friday night, Wessel connected with Nick Perillo ’16 on a 39-yard touchdown pass to tie the score at 21 at intermission.
Wessel and Kevin Newman ’15 rushed for touchdowns in the second half to give the Tigers a 35-21 lead before a late Auburndale touchdown established the final score. Jesuit recovered the onside-kick attempt and ran out the final minute.
