Mass of the Holy Spirit

In keeping with a Jesuit schools tradition dating back to the 16th century, Jesuit High School celebrated Mass of the Holy Spirit on Friday (Aug. 31). Following Mass and grade-level photos, students were dismissed for Labor Day weekend, returning to classes on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
For the first time, the class photos were taken in front of the Chapel of the Holy Cross (seniors) and Gonzmart Hall (freshmen).
Recognized as the spiritual beginning of the new school year, Mass of the Holy Spirit has been celebrated annually by Jesuit schools since 1548 in Messina, Sicily, at the first Jesuit school. The rector of the Jesuit High School community, Fr. Paul Deutsch, S.J., was the celebrant again this year.
