March for Life 2026!

March for Life 2026!

Jesuit High School's Pro-Life Club traveled to Washington D.C. last week (Jan. 21-24) for several days centered around their participation in the 53rd annual March for Life.

Led by club moderators Krista Jones and Randolph Davidson and school president Fr. Vincent Giacabazi, S.J., the 43 Jesuit students and six chaperones joined tens of thousands of others who marched through D.C. on Friday (Jan. 23) in demonstration of their support for the right to life of the unborn. The pilgrimage to the D.C. area for three chilly days was filled with impactful experiences and camaraderie, and it marked the 17th time a Jesuit contingent has participated in the March for Life.

Shortly after their arrival on Wednesday evening, they met in small groups for discussion and prayer and prepared for an amazing Thursday (Jan. 22). The morning began with a panel discussion at the Ethics & Public Policy Center, followed by praying the rosary at Planned Parenthood. In the afternoon, the Tigers explored the Smithsonian Museums, followed by a deeply moving Mass for the Vigil for Life at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception at Catholic University. The day concluded with a breathtaking nighttime tour of the monuments and memorials in the nation's capital.

Friday morning, the day of the March for Life, began with Mass celebrated by Father Giacabazi at the Catholic Information Center, then lunch at Union Station before departing for the National Mall, the starting point of the march and the location of the pre-march Rally for the Unborn. From there, together with tens of thousands bundled up from the cold, they marched from the Washington Monument past the U.S. Capitol to the U.S. Supreme Court, holding high the Jesuit Pro-Life banner and listening to Silent No More testimonies.

Friday evening they took time for reflection with hot chocolate, followed by Eucharistic Adoration at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, then dinner at Pupatella Pizza with time dedicated to group sharing, before ending the night with ice skating on the National Mall.

The Pro-Life Club members returned to Tampa early the next morning (Jan. 24) in order to leave before a major storm struck the D.C. area.

The March for Life has been held every year since the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion at the federal level. In 2022, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in its Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization ruling, essentially shifting the issue from the federal to the state level.
