Jesuit High School's Latin Club, under the direction of moderators Nick Werner and David Coffta, placed 3rd overall in the Senior Academic Division and took home numerous top individual awards at the Region 7 Latin Forum competition Saturday (Feb. 2) at Durant High School.

It marked the second straight year Jesuit placed in the top 3 from among the 15 schools competing in the Region, and 19 Jesuit students earned a total of 30 medals and/or ribbons.

Taking top honors were four 1st-place medalists in four events: Jonah Tran '22 in Grammar I; Carter French '22 in Grammar II; Karol Piedad '19 in Greek Derivatives Advanced; and Kegan Lovell '19 in Reading Comprehension.

Several more Jesuit participants earned 2nd-place medals in their respective events, including one Certamen (Roman Quiz Bowl) team, the Level 2 A team of French, Isaac Addison '22, and Antonio Troncoso '22.

Additional 2nd place individual finishers were: Noah Tran '20 in Greek Literature Advanced; Trace Nuss '19 in History of the Empire Advanced; and Jonah Tran in Vocabulary I.

As part of the Latin Forum Region competition there is a 4-event Olympika competition, in which Anson Rowe '20 placed 5th in the Long Jump; French placed 3rd in the 100 Meter Dash; Jude Delikat '21 placed 2nd in the 100 Meter Dash; Collin Talbot '20 placed 2nd in the Friscus; and Chase Sauter '20 placed 1st in the Long Jump. 

Third-place medalists for Jesuit included: Charlie Mandt '20 in Classical Geography Advanced; Delikat in Grammar II; and Piedad in Grammar Advanced.

Additional ribbon recipients finishing in 4th place were: the Certamen Advanced Team of Piedad, Nuss, Rowe, and Luke Lehman '21; Jake Pratt '20 in Customs Advanced; Troncoso in Grammar II; Rowe in Grammar Advanced; French in History of the Empire 2; and Addison in Pentathlon 2.

Fifth-place ribbon recipients were: the Certamen Level 2 B Team of Delikat, Adam Collins '22, Will Danzi '21, and Viet Ho '21; Collins in Grammar II; Lehman in Grammar Advanced; Mandt in History of the Empire Advanced, Joseph Ringewald '21 in Latin Literature Advanced; Pratt in Mythology Advanced; Ringewald in Reading Comprehension; and Troncoso in Vocabulary II.

The Region 7 competition was one of eight such Regional Latin Forums contested recently in Florida. Next, the club will participate in the State competition April 4-6 in Orlando.
