The Jesuit High School lacrosse team added a major highlight to a sensational season on Thursday (April 19) by claiming the District Championship with a 9-5 win over Plant.

The Tigers improved to 16-2 overall and earned their first District crown since 2015 with stellar defense and opportunistic offense. In the first half Luke Garthwaite '18 made 10 saves, and in the second half Matthew Farley ’19 allowed just one goal as Jesuit methodically built on its 5-4 halftime lead. The final horn triggered a euphoric celebration with the players and dozens of Blue Tide student supporters who made the trip to Berkeley Prep for the game.

Chris Jennings ’18 and Jake Lemon '18 both scored three goals and were critical in helping the Tigers maintain possession during the second half. Head coach Ryan Henry, in his second season, credited the team’s grittiness and enthusiasm for the victory, which avenged a tough overtime defeat to Plant in the District Tournament last season.

The game had added importance because unlike most other FHSAA sports, in lacrosse only the District champion advances to play in the Region, not the runner-up. Jesuit will face Sickles in the next round, the Region Quarterfinal, on Friday, April 27 at 7:00pm at Gaither High School.
