Key Club Assists St. Jude

On September 15 in downtown Tampa, 24 students from Jesuit High School's Key Club volunteered at the St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer, helping the event raise more than $185,000.

The 5K walk/run, which began at Amalie Arena, raised money to help families in the Tampa Bay area pay for treatment for children with cancer. The volunteers from Key Club represented 25 percent of the event's workforce. They assisted the more than 2,000 participants by setting up water stations, supporting the runners/walkers at locations around the race circuit, and preparing and refilling water to hand out during the race.

Nessler '22, Nico Norton '22, Jack Padron '21, Nico Puente '22, Zachary Reich '22, Kenneth Waller '21, Kaden Wheeler '22, and Nicholas Wolf '22. They were joined by Jesuit Key Club moderator Amy Martin and the club's Kiwanis advisor, Martin Koscso, P '02, '07.

For more than 50 years, Jesuit's Key Club has established a legacy of outstanding service and community outreach. Earlier this year at the State Convention, from among more than 300 Key Clubs in Florida, Jesuit's was recognized with a variety of honors and accolades, most notably the Distinguished Club Award.

With help from donors, volunteers, and organizations like Jesuit's Key Club, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital provides treatment for childhood cancer patients without ever billing their families. Since it opened more than 50 years ago, treatments invented at St. Jude have helped to raise the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to more than 80 percent.
