STORY UPDATE
In a football showdown between Jesuit schools founded in the 1800s, nationally ranked St. Joseph's Prep of Philadelphia traveled to Tampa and defeated Jesuit High School 22-7 on Friday (Sept. 1).

"The Prep," ranked No. 17 in the nation by USA Today, scored on its opening possession - converting a fourth down in the process - and kept the lead throughout.

The Tigers cut the deficit to 12-7 on a Larry Hodges '19 touchdown run late in the third quarter but the Hawks held on.

The Jesuit defense, led by Anthony Nelson '18, played a superlative game. The Tigers allowed only the opening score and two field goals, both of which came when the Hawks started the possession already well into field goal range. The Prep's other scores came on a safety and defensive TD.

PRE-GAME STORY
The Jesuit High School football program will play one of the most unique games in its storied history Friday (Sept. 1) at Corral Memorial Stadium when the Tigers host St. Joseph’s Prep from Philadelphia.

It will be a rare meeting against another Jesuit school (St. Joseph’s Prep was founded in 1851, 48 years before Jesuit High School), as well as an opportunity to face a nationally ranked team.

Known as “the Prep,” the Hawks are ranked No. 17 nationally by USA Today and No. 19 by MaxPreps. They have captured three Pennsylvania state championships in the past four seasons, including an undefeated campaign last fall capped by a 42-7 win over Pittsburgh Central Catholic.

A true national powerhouse, opening the season out-of-state has become a tradition for the Prep. The past six seasons the Hawks have played their first game in Washington, D.C., Florida (at Disney vs. Cocoa), Texas, Illinois, Louisiana, and California – and won all six.

Jesuit is coming off back-to-back State Semifinal campaigns, compiling a 25-2 record the past two seasons. The Tigers won their preseason game, 41-7, over Gaither but dropped the regular season opener last week to Durant, 14-10.

Friday’s game will be live streamed by the student-run Jesuit Tigers News Network (JTNN). A link to the stream will be sent out via social media (Jesuit’s Facebook and Twitter accounts) sometime on Friday.
