Jesuit High School celebrates the Blessing of the Throats

Jesuit High School celebrated the Blessing of the Throats at Convocation on Tuesday (Feb. 3), the feast day of St. Blaise.

Jesuit’s students were blessed by the touching of their throat with two candles joined together in the form of a cross.

On Monday (Feb. 2) at Convocation, the school celebrated the Beginning of the Year of Consecrated Life (YCL). Pope Francis declared YCL to begin on the first Sunday of Advent (Nov. 30, 2014), and it will close Feb. 2, 2016, the World Day of Consecrated Life.

Those who are consecrated have devoted their lives to the service and worship of God. As part of YCL, four large banners have been hung in St. Anthony’s Chapel, of St. Francis, St. Ignatius, St. Dominic, and St. Benedict.

Last Tuesday (Jan. 27) during Convocation, Jesuit celebrated the Blessing of Spring Sports. The seniors members of Jesuit’s baseball, lacrosse, tennis, and track & field teams received a special blessing from Jesuit president Fr. Richard C. Hermes, S.J.
