Jesuit 35, TC 20

Jesuit 35, TC 20

Explosive offense in the first half and dynamite defense in the second lifted the Jesuit High School football team to a historic triumph over Tampa Catholic on Friday night (Nov. 6), 35-20.

It was the 16th straight win for Jesuit over TC; it culminated a perfect 10-0 regular season for the Tigers, their first since 2010; and running back Malik Davis ’17 shattered the school record for rushing yards in a game with 357 on 51 carries. (Mo Harris ran for 289 in 1992).

Davis also became Jesuit's all-time leading rusher with 3,892 yards, surpassing Will Glover '99 (3,865).

The score was 28-20 at halftime as both teams hit several big plays, but defensive adjustments made the difference after intermission, as Jesuit held TC scoreless while forcing four turnovers. The Tigers stretched the lead to 35-20 on Davis’ third score of the game, from 20 yards out with 1:19 remaining, to clinch it.

Moments earlier, the defense had stopped TC (8-2) on downs while protecting the tenuous 8-point lead, with Parker Looney ’16 and Nick Leone ’16 registering back-to-back sacks.

Mayson Atkinson ’16 had two interceptions, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery, and Zack Quilty ’16 had a blocked PAT and blocked punt in the 1st quarter.

Quarterback Danny Boon ’17 scored the other two touchdowns, both coming on 1-yard sneaks.

Jesuit looks to carry its regular-season success into the Class 5A playoffs next Friday (Nov. 13), as the Tigers host Lakewood at 7:30pm at Corral Memorial Stadium.
