Grasping Victory

The undefeated Jesuit High School football team advanced to the Class 5A Region Final for the 3rd straight season with a 42-21 win over Jefferson on Friday (Nov. 18) at Corral Memorial Stadium.

Jesuit (11-0) will host Immokalee (8-4), a 28-6 winner over Fort Myers Dunbar, on Friday night (Nov. 25), with a second straight berth in the State Semifinal at stake.

Friday night's game vs. Jefferson featured numerous big plays, with the Tigers getting the bulk of them to pull away for the win. Malik Davis ’17 rushed for 279 yards on 22 carries and 4 touchdowns, Travell Harris ’17 made a spectacular 38-yard TD reception (pictured on the homepage) from QB Danny Boon '17, and the Tigers snared three interceptions, by Harris, Leonard Parker ’19, and Dane Belton ’19.

It marked the 10th straight game in which both Davis and Harris scored touchdowns (Boon had the other TD Friday on a 2-yard sneak), and they have combined for 48 this season. Davis surpassed his school record of 28 TDs from last season and now has 31 this fall.

Davis also continues to add to his Hillsborough County record career rushing total. His 6,690 career rushing yards is, according to floridapreprecords.com, the 14th-best total in state history. Davis also surpassed 2,000 rushing yards on the season and now has 2,130, 207 shy of his school-record 2,337 from last season.

Kicker Camden Bauman ’17 was a perfect 6-for-6 on extra points, giving him a state-best 65 PATs this season. He also is tops in scoring among kickers in Florida with 92 points.
