Football Scores 28-14 win

An unusual season for the Jesuit High School football team took a sharp turn in a very positive direction with a convincing 28-14 win over Ridge Community on Friday (Sept. 22) at Corral Memorial Stadium.

Class 8A Ridge Community of Polk County was 3-0 with some notable wins, so the Class 5A Tigers notched a high-quality victory for their first W of the season.

After two narrow losses to larger schools to open the season, including nationally ranked St. Joseph's Prep of Philadelphia in Week 2, the Tigers then took a two-week hiatus as Hurricane Irma passed through Florida.

The Jesuit defense dominated Friday's game, smothering Ridge Community for most of the night. Nick Terrana '18 registered four sacks, and Anthony Nelson '18 made big plays in the backfield. After Jesuit staked a 28-7 lead on Larry Hodges '18's second touchdown of the second half, Ridge Community scored in the final seconds to set the final score.

Jesuit led 14-0 at halftime with both scores coming on special teams. Dane Belton '19 took the opening kickoff 75 yards for 7-0 lead after nine seconds, and Kendrick Torain '18 scampered 20 yards with a blocked punt (by Jaden Pask '19) in the 2nd quarter.

Hodges made a sensational one-handed catch to set up his 1-yard rushing TD that put Jesuit up 21-0 in the 3rd quarter. And with two minutes remaining in the game Hodges iced it with a 27-yard TD reception from QB Enzo Tedesco '21.

Jesuit will play its first District game of the season Friday (Sept. 29) vs. Spoto at Corral Memorial Stadium at 7:30pm.
