Fast Start for Jesuit Football

Fast Start for Jesuit Football

Jesuit football defeated Bishop Verot 28-21 on Friday (Sept. 4) in the season-opener in Fort Myers.

Playing before a limited crowd due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Tigers were led by three TD passes from Joe Pesansky '21, two TD receptions by Jaydn Girard '22 (pictured on the homepage), and interceptions by Todd Bowles '21 and Aiden Clark '21.

Jesuit jumped out to a 22-0 early lead on a series of big pass plays from Pesansky to Junior Vandeross '22Carter French '22, and Girard. Bishop Verot, which was 9-3 last season, connected on some big plays of its own to make it close in the second half. However, the Tiger defense, led by A.J. Cottrill '22 and Clark, kept Jesuit on top. Strong offensive line play and hard running by Jo Smith '23, who had a touchdown run, ran out the clock for the Tigers.

Friday (Sept. 11), the Tigers host Clearwater at 7:30pm at Corral Memorial Stadium. There are no ticket sales - advance tickets for family only - but the game is available via live stream (link posted Friday) and on Jesuit Football Twitter, @JesuitTigers_FB.

The Tigers are looking to advance to the State Semifinal this season for the 3rd consecutive year and 5th time in the past 6 seasons under head coach Matt Thompson. The 2020 schedule recently was finalized and has added a 10th game vs. Berkeley Prep on Sept. 25. Click here for the Varsity football schedule.
