Two games, two big wins for Jesuit football

The Jesuit High School football team routed Ocala Trinity Catholic 38-0 on Friday (Sept. 4), a week after winning its season opener 39-6 at Lakewood Ranch. The Tigers also won their preseason game over Strawberry Crest, 38-0.

Against Trinity Catholic, Travell Harris ’17 scored a touchdown three ways – rushing, receiving, and on a fumble return. Rey Riveros ’16 had two TD receptions, and quarterback Danny Boon ’17 threw for three scores.

But the story was the defense, which allowed a total of 25 yards for the entire game, smothering Trinity Catholic on every possession. Tackle Nick Leone ’16 and end Zack Quilty ’16 were disrupting the backfield all night, and linebackers Braden Gilby ’18, Parker Looney ’16, and Sergio Farina ’16 thwarted the Trinity Catholic ballcarriers. Safety Mayson Atkinson ’16 had a blocked punt and made the saving tackle on a fake punt attempt, and Harris added an interception to his other exploits.

The Tigers next play Friday (Sept. 11) at Leto at 7:30pm. The first District game is the following week, Sept. 18, at Jefferson.
