Fall Signing Ceremony

Fall Signing Ceremony

Jesuit High School student-athletes from the school's baseball and lacrosse programs signed with the colleges of their choice Wednesday (Nov. 8) at a special early morning signing ceremony in the President's Board Room at Jesuit.

Family, friends, and coaches filled the room to celebrate the event. The eight Jesuit seniors who signed Letters of Intent on Wednesday morning were:

  • Jack Anderson, baseball, Florida State University
  • Joel Brewer, baseball, University of South Carolina
  • Seth Cashen, lacrosse, Bellarmine University
  • Robert Hales, baseball, Spalding University
  • Chris Jennings, lacrosse, Lynchburg College
  • Everett Lee, baseball, Wesleyan University
  • Jake Lemon, lacrosse, Canisius College
  • McGuire Weaver, baseball, Florida State University

The five baseball players helped Jesuit capture the Saladino Tournament championship last season and advance to the 5A State championship game. Anderson pitched a shutout in the State semifinal, and Weaver (.400 avg.) was the team's leading hitter. They join Jesuit alumni Ronnie Ramirez '15 and Clayton Kwiatkowski '16 in the hallowed FSU baseball program.

Brewer (.391 avg. team-high 16 SBs in 2017) also is signing with a powerhouse program. The Gamecocks were the National Champions in 2010 and '11.

"It's always a great day when we get to see the young men in our program who work so hard see the fruits of their labor rewarded," Jesuit baseball coach Miguel Menendez said. "It's a testament to the hard work they have put in over the years and the sacrifices they have made. A guy like Everett Lee, who has endured so much with injuries, to be able to sign with a prestigious school such as Wesleyan, and Robert Hales, who has worked so hard and improved every year, to be able to sign with Spalding - these are the moments you live for as a coach."

After several years as a club sport, Jesuit lacrosse has been a Varsity sport for six years. With three signees Wednesday, including Lemon, the Spectrum Sports 2017 Player of the Year for the Tampa Bay area after scoring 46 goals in 17 games, the program continues its impressive development. Cashen has been a standout defender for three years, and Jennings is a multi-sport star who earned five medals at the State swim meet last week, including a gold medal for Jesuit's team State title. The trio helped lead Jesuit lacrosse to a 14-3 record last season.

“Today is a very proud day for the Jesuit lacrosse family because all three of our 2018 captains signed National Letters of Intent," Jesuit lacrosse coach Ryan Henry said. "Our program has reached the point where we have players signing every year, and in three of the past four years at least one Jesuit player has signed with a Division I school.

"We are very grateful to have Chris, Seth, and Jake as our captains this year, because they represent our program so well.  It is only fitting that they get a special moment together in signing to three very strong lacrosse schools.”

This is the first of three college signing ceremonies scheduled at Jesuit for the 2017-18 school year. The second and third ceremonies will take place in February and April. (At this time, Jesuit is not planning a ceremony for the new football-only early signing date on Dec. 20). Each year, about 20-30 Jesuit student-athletes sign Letters of Intent to participate in college athletics.
