In the span of four days this past weekend, three more Jesuit sports teams brought home District titles.
Football (Friday), swimming (Saturday), and cross country (Monday) all earned championship hardware, giving Jesuit four District Championship teams during this fall sports season after golf had already claimed the District title earlier in October.
Friday night (Oct. 27) at Corral Memorial Stadium, Jesuit football won its 6th straight game, defeating Hillsborough 28-7 to clinch the District crown for the 10th time in 11 seasons under head coach Matt Thompson. A stingy defense that did not yield a point to the Terriers (who scored on a fumble return) led the way, as Drew Woodaz ’24 scored a special teams touchdown and Will Griffin ’26 passed for 291 yards. The Tigers close the regular season Friday (Nov. 3) with Senior Night at Corral Memorial Stadium vs. TC.
The next day, Saturday (Oct. 28), at the Academy of the Holy Names, Jesuit swimming continued one of the most remarkable streaks in local sports annals, winning its 27th consecutive District Meet by outscoring runner-up Spoto by 467 points, 666 to 199. Aidan Clements ’24 won two individual events and swam on two winning relay teams; Eric Rein ’24 won the 100 breaststroke and was part of two winning relays; Liam Maloney ’24 won the 200 IM and was part of two winning relays; Tito Borromeo ’24 placed top-3 in two individual events and was part of two winning relays; Bruno Borowiec ’26 and Henry Neely ’26 both swam on two winning relays and had two top 3 individual finishes; Jack Rozance ’25 placed 1st in diving, Greg Politis ’24 won the backstroke, and Wilson Marcum ’27 won the 50 freestyle and placed 3rd in the 100 backstroke; and Ivan Borowiec ’24, Max Livingston ’24, Tyler Henry ’24, David Dieffenthaller ’27, and Noah Kreye ’27 also had top-3 finishes. The Region Meet is Saturday (Nov. 4) at St. Petersburg Aquatics, where the Tigers will be aiming for their 15th straight Region crown.
Then on Monday (Oct. 30) at Babe Zaharias Golf Course, Jesuit cross country captured its second consecutive District title, defeating runners-up St. Petersburg and Osceola and 17 other schools for the victory. The Tigers' strong depth made the difference, as five Jesuit runners placed in the top 16, and eight in the top 24. Leading the way for Jesuit was Cesar Calero ’27, who placed 3rd in 16:23, followed by Lucas Rupp ’26 (7th, 16:57), Brody Thurston ’25 (13th, 17:14), Max Purvis ’26 (15th, 17:25), and Daniel Dewey ’25 (16th, 17:25). The Tigers will compete in the Region Meet at Buckingham Park in Fort Myers on Nov. 9.
