Jesuit excels in the FHSAA's 2014-15 Academic and Athletic awards
The Jesuit High School athletic program, under the leadership of athletic director Terry Rupp ’84, was again ranked among the very best academically and athletically during the 2014-15 school year.
In the classroom, the Tigers placed second in the state among all boys athletic programs in Class 5A in the Florida High School Athletic Association’s Academic Team Champion standings. The Academic Team Champion award recognizes the cumulative grade point average for each team.
Two Jesuit teams captured first place in the Academic Team Champion rankings in their respective sports, bowling (head coach Vinny Davila) and soccer (head coach Eric Sims ’95, whose team is pictured on the homepage after winning the District title). Placing second was basketball (head coach Neal Goldman), and earning third was football (head coach Matt Thompson).
On the field, the Tigers were runner-up for the FHSAA’s All-Sports Award among Class 5A boys programs, behind only Plantation American Heritage. See the chart below for Jesuit's FHSAA Boys All-Sports ranking among all schools in Florida (5th), all schools in the Tampa Bay area (1st), and private schools in Tampa Bay (1st).
Jesuit claimed District titles in 11 of 12 sports for the second straight year in 2014-15, and the Tigers also earned Region titles in swimming, tennis, and track & field. Jesuit’s top team finishes at State this school year came in swimming (second place, the highest finish by a Hillsborough County school since 1949), and tennis (third).
The Tampa Bay Times discontinued its All-Sports Award this year. Jesuit had captured the award, which recognized the top athletics program in the Tampa Bay area, in 2013-14.
