Jesuit captures District (lacrosse) and Region (tennis) titles on April 9

Thursday afternoon (April 9), the Jesuit tennis team routed Auburndale for the Region title.

Thursday night, it was the lacrosse team’s turn to capture a trophy. The Tigers stormed away from Steinbrenner in the second half for a 13-7 victory in the District Final at Corral Memorial Stadium.

Stephano Mastro ’15 scored five goals and goalie Sebastian Rivers ’16 led a stout defense that yielded just one goal in the second half.

Jesuit is one of 32 District lacrosse champions in Florida – lacrosse is a single-class sport, meaning all schools in the state compete for one State championship - and will play at Newsome next Friday (April 17) at 7:00pm to try to advance to the final 16.

Jesuit tennis is one of eight Region champions in Class 2A, and the Tigers will play in the State Tournament in Casselberry on Wednesday and Thursday (April 15-16).

Jesuit swept its first four matches in straight sets Thursday at HCC, getting wins from No. 1 Palmer Evans ’15, No. 2 Jimmy Emslie ’18, No. 3 Alex Crosby ’15, and No. 4 Gantt Meredith ’16.

Max Azzarelli ’15, who has been out with an injured ankle, is expected to return to the top of the Jesuit lineup for the State Tournament.
