The Hon. Bob Bauman has been selected to the Florida Athletic Coaches Association's Hall of Fame in its Class of 2020.
Bauman is the fifth former Jesuit coach so honored by FACA, joining Paul Straub (inducted 1981), Bill Minahan (1996), John Crumbley (2007), and Mike Boza (2008). Bauman led Jesuit soccer to five State titles – 1995, '97, '98, '99 and '01 – and the national title in 2001. Jesuit also was state runner-up in 1988, '96, and '00.
"As humbling as this is, the real award goes to the Jesuit student athletes, their parents, the coaches, and administration with whom I had the privilege of working for 26 years," Bauman said.
Bauman received numerous local, state, and national coaching honors during his career, including the National High School Athletic Coaches Association's National Coach of the Year Award in 2006. In 26 seasons at Jesuit, he led the Tigers to 15 State Tournament berths (i.e. Final Four appearances) and a record of 571-124-69 (79.3%). Bauman resigned in 2013 to pursue a judicial position for Hillsborough Circuit Court, Group 34, to which he was elected in 2014.
Six players who were coached by Bauman at Jesuit earned the Jose A. Alvarez Award, given annually to the Hillsborough County Outstanding High School Soccer Player of the Year: Michael Conlon ’14, Brett Durrance ’12, Tyler Hartlage ’11, Justin Trowbridge ’01, Terry McCormick ’97, and Brian Crane ’91.
Bauman is one of five coaches named to FACA's 2020 Hall of Fame class, along with Jacksonville Bolles track and field coach Dan Dearing, Tallahassee Maclay soccer coach Andy Warner, Ponte Vedra Nease tennis coach Michael Krypriss, and Fort Myers football coach Sam Sirianni Jr.
Bauman returned to coaching two years ago, taking over as boys soccer coach at Cristo Rey Tampa. One of Bauman's former players, Eric Sims '95, replaced him as head coach at Jesuit in 2014 and led Tiger soccer to its seventh State title this February with a 5-4 championship game win over Pembroke Pines Charter.
