Basketball: District Champs!

Basketball: District Champs!

Trailing most of the way, and still behind entering the 4th quarter against the District's No. 1 seed, Jesuit basketball had an uphill climb to achieve its 9th consecutive District Championship.

So the Tigers kept climbing. After that final period, Jesuit had ascended to victory, downing top-seeded Blake 58-46 on Friday (Feb. 14) at Chamberlain to claim the District title and keep the remarkable championship streak going.

The keys were superlative defense and high-percentage offense. The Tigers drew three charges, by Spencer Farfante '20, Kevin Mauro '20, and Jasiah Taylor '22, to help turn the game in their favor. Lock-down defense from Junior Vandeross '22, Kai Ravenna '21, and Grayson Arnold '21 kept the Yellow Jackets in check.

On offense, Ryan Weir '21 (16 points) and Bennett Andersen '20 (15 points) led an efficient attack and controlled the tempo for head coach Neal Goldman. Mauro added two late 3-pointers to help put the game away.

Jesuit (22-6) has won 12 of its past 13 games. The Tigers will host Boca Ciega in a Region Quarterfinal on Thursday (Feb. 20) at 7:00pm at the Tiger Palace.
