Baccalaureate Mass 2020

Last year, for the first time, Jesuit High School celebrated Baccalaureate Mass inside the spectacular new Chapel of the Holy Cross at the heart of campus.

Last night (June 17), for the first time, Jesuit celebrated Baccalaureate Mass outside of the Chapel of the Holy Cross – in the beautiful Oliva Courtyard adjacent to the chapel.

Due to coronavirus concerns, the Class of 2020, Jesuit’s largest-ever with 200 graduates, celebrated Baccalaureate Mass outdoors on Wednesday night. The beautiful evening brought together students and faculty, socially distanced and wearing the traditional cap and gown, for the first time since before spring break.

Jesuit president Fr. Richard C. Hermes, S.J. and Fr. Angel Rivera-Fals, S.J. celebrated Mass on an altar set up in front of the chapel, while family members of the Class of 2020 were seated throughout the courtyard, evenly spaced. The event began during daylight and concluded amidst the soft glow of special lighting throughout the courtyard. Jesuit musicians, under the direction of Dominick DiCarlo, provided a beautiful backdrop to the amazing event.

For the students, the Baccalaureate Mass took place in the shadow of the façade of the chapel they had watched rise in the center of campus during their freshman and sophomore years.
