All-Sports Champs!

All-Sports Champs!

The Tigers are No. 1 – again.

Make it 8 straight years now for Jesuit athletics as the No. 1 boys sports program in Florida in its classification! And the Tigers were even more impressive in their athletic dominance among all Tampa Bay area schools.

This week, the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) released its annual all-sports rankings from last school year, a.k.a. The Floyd E. Lay Sunshine Cup All-Sports Awards. For 2025-26, Jesuit athletics was spectacular once again.

The Tigers finished with 129 points in the FHSAA scoring system (which rewards winning in District-Region-State competition in each FHSAA sport), to finish No. 1 in Class 5A, ahead of Florida’s other Jesuit high school, runner-up Miami Belen Jesuit with 90.75.

In the Tampa Bay area, among all schools in the tri-county area (Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco), Jesuit's 129 points far outdistanced the boys sports programs at all other schools. The local runners-up were: SLAM Tampa (Class 2A, 40 points), Palm Harbor University (7A, 39.5), and Calvary Christian (3A, 34). Jesuit has dominated the All-Sports Award locally since its inception in 2003, earning the No. 1 spot among all Tampa Bay area schools in 23 of the 24 years.

Among all schools in Florida in all classifications, Jesuit ranked No. 2 behind Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (145.25). It marks the 8th straight year Jesuit has finished in the Top 3 among all schools in all classifications, in addition to the 8th straight year finishing No. 1 in Class 5A.

Athletic director Terry Rupp '84 has guided the Tigers to perennial powerhouse status, presiding over Jesuit's 12 FHSAA sports team programs since 2009. In 2025-26, Jesuit's efforts were led by the State Champion swimming and baseball programs. Swimming, under 1st-year head coach Robbie Shaffer ’19, earned the program’s 4th State title. Baseball captured the program’s 8th State crown and 4th under head coach Miguel Menendez.

Several other programs earned Region titles, including golf (head coach David Simmons) basketball (Neal Goldman), and soccer (Eric Sims ’95). Wrestling (Sal Basile) placed 3rd at the State Tournament with three individual State Champions.

Cross country (Mike Phillips), football (Matt Thompson), and lacrosse (Noah Menendez '14) all won the District title and were Region runner-up, and track & field (Andy Wood) earned its 6th straight District title and missed out on the Region title by 1 point.

See below the FHSAA All-Sports Award standings for the 2025-26 school year for: 1. boys programs in Class 5A; 2. in all classifications; 3. among all Tampa Bay-area schools; 4. and among all Tampa Bay-area private schools.
