18 National AP Scholars at Jesuit

Jesuit High School's Advanced Placement program had a banner year in 2018-19, with the most National AP Scholars, 18, in school history.

The 18 National AP Scholars is more than double the previous year and reflects a continued trend of growth and excellence in Advanced Placement at Jesuit. In July, the school announced an 81% average AP pass rate in 2018-19, the fourth time in six years Jesuit has exceeded 80% while expanding its AP program each year.

AP course offerings at Jesuit have escalated from 10 in 2011 to 24 last year and 26 this year with the addition of Microeconomics and Spanish Literature and Composition. The number of AP students has grown from 139 in 2011 to 459 last year. 

"National AP Scholar" is the highest recognition for high school students who take AP Exams. National AP Scholars are those who have earned a score of 4 or higher on eight or more Advanced Placement Exams, and averaged at least 4 on all of their AP Exams.

In addition to the National AP Scholars, in 2018-19 Jesuit also had:

64 AP Scholars with Distinction - students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams

19 AP Scholars with Honor - students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams 

52 AP Scholars - students who have received scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams 

Also, Jesuit graduated its second class of AP Capstone Diploma recipients in 2019, raising the number of Jesuit students who have received the prestigious Capstone Diploma to 16.

The Advanced Placement program, created by the College Board, offers college-level curricula and examinations to high school students. The AP curriculum for each of the various subjects is created for the College Board by a panel of experts and college-level educators in that field of study. Jesuit maintains the integrity of its AP program and test results by requiring all enrolled AP students to take the AP exam in that course. (Some schools allow students in AP courses to opt out of the AP test.)
