15th Annual Men For Others Dinner

15th Annual Men For Others Dinner

The Jesuit Dads' Club's 15th annual Men for Others Dinner on Sunday (March 21) once again brought together hundreds of fathers and sons for a wonderful evening of food, fellowship, and faith.

After a one-year hiatus due to COVID-19, the cherished annual gathering returned Sunday at a new location, moving from Higgins Hall to the Hilton Tampa Downtown. The event featured an impactful keynote address by Gus Lloyd, P '13, '14. Lloyd has been a radio show host on Sirius XM's The Catholic Channel since 2006, and currently he hosts the popular morning talk show "Seize the Day." Prior to his work on The Catholic Channel, Lloyd hosted the morning show on Spirit FM 90.5 in Tampa for 13 years. His sons Patrick Lloyd '13 and John Lloyd '14 are Jesuit alumni, and Lloyd has written and published six books.

Jesuit Dads' Club president Brian Smith '87 presented the 2021 Michael G. Songy "Men for Others" Award, the Dads' Club's highest honor, to Mike Donovan, P '20. The award, which is given for service to the Dads' Club and Jesuit High School, is named for Mike Songy, P '98, '00. Among the past recipients of the award are the 2020 recipient Chris Freeman, P '20; 2019 recipient Steve Sanchez, P '17, '20; and the first recipient in 2009, Michael Crochet, P '07.

An annual highlight of the Men for Others Dinner are the two senior speakers. This year, Andrew Garateix '21 (father Ernie Garateix, P '21), and John Barreto '21 (father Ron Barreto, P '21) spoke about how their fathers have positively shaped their lives through love and guidance while serving as great role models and men of faith.

Please see below a photo slideshow from the evening, as well as videos of the three speakers – Garateix, Barreto, and Lloyd – plus a video of the Songy Award presentation.
