Jesuit High School athletics once again demonstrated its prowess in the classroom, claiming 1st place among all Class 6A boys programs in the FHSAA's Academic Team Champion (ATC) standings in 2016-17.

The Tigers, with 71 points in the ATC scoring system (which ranks team GPA within each sport), easily outdistanced the boys programs at 6A runners-up Orlando Bishop Moore (46), Southwest Ranches Archbishop McCarthy (44), and Riviera Beach Suncoast (34).

In 2015-16, when classified as 5A, Jesuit also finished first in the ATC standings, 30 points ahead of Gainesville Eastside's boys programs, 73-43.

Six Jesuit teams propelled the Tigers to the title again in 2016-17 by earning 1st or 2nd place in their respective sport. Taking top honors were basketball (head coach Neal Goldman), football (head coach Matt Thompson), and wrestling (head coach Sal Basile). Also, soccer (head coach Eric Sims) tied for 1st place, but the tiebreaker procedure placed soccer in second.

Finishing in second place along with soccer were bowling (head coach Ted Beil) and track & field (head coach Andy Wood).

Among Jesuit's 12 sports programs, soccer finished with the best team GPA, edging out bowling 3.622 to 3.620, with swimming in 3rd (3.600, head coach Bill Shaffer), cross country in 4th (3.517, head coach Jim Ranieri), and track & field in 5th (3.505).

The FHSAA calculates ATC using the cumulative grade point average of each sports team. The team GPA is then ranked against the other programs in the same classification in that sport. First place merits 10 points, 2nd place is worth 9, 3rd place 8, and so on down to 1 point for 10th.

Jesuit annually finishes among the very best boys sports programs in the FHSAA both academically and athletically, ranking at the top of both the ATC and the All-Sports Award standings. In 2015-16, Jesuit finished first in both the ATC and All-Sports Award rankings. The 2016-17 All-Sports Award standings will be released in June.
